The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is the period of time in history when there was a rapid change in the way things were made. This meant that instead of things being hand made in small workshops, they were made more for less money and in large quantities by machines in factories this was more efficient. Since the products were made in large bulks the price of the products fell a lot and they were a lot cheaper.
Many people began to move form the country side, where jobs such as farming took place, to the towns and cities, where the factories offered more and better paid work which was more reliable during the entire year. This made this work overall more reliable. This gave a lot of people a valid reason to move to the city.
Due to the massive influx of people the living standards rose and people generally became richer and healthier and had more children who survived to be adults instead of starving. This resulted in a sudden population growth in England. This meant that lots of people were forced to live in a very compact space so the living condition became horrible and caused disease. Furthermore the new machines needed coal and so the miners had to work for long hours in order to find more coal. The environment was also damaged due to the large growth in industry.
Railway tracks were also built all around England. They carried freight and passengers much more quickly and cheaply than before. This meant that the transport links were better so the overall development and growth of the country a lot faster than otherwise
